Sneak Preview: Building Connexions Splash-Page Revealed
Washington DC (PRWEB) April 18, 2009 -- The splash-page of Building Connexions (BCx) was launched at midnight on Sunday, September 21, 2008 with the SMS message "Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with www.buildingconnexions.com" from the website designer to the team of participants, consisting of educators, architects, designers and well wishers.
The interactive website is currently under construction. When officially launched in late spring 2009, BCx will simultaneously feature 4 diverse architectural projects under construction in 4 countries. Building Connexions will focus on themes of place and the analytical approaches that have emerged in response to new configurations of knowledge, practice, and arrangement of space created by the rapid effects of globalization on the built environment.
While acknowledging that the basic principle of design is to solve problems relating to a prescribed program, construction methods and materials, BCx explores the ability of the built form to convey visual expressiveness through the choices made by its authors and in so doing discover its unique relationship to locale. BCx's vision is to create an interactive and focused learning environment that will enable intellectual discourse between architects, urban planners, landscape architects, designers and the general public; and create a forward-looking paradigm for education.
Among the key elements that make this website unique are:
* All featured projects focus on the primary theme of place.
* Projects are selected on the basis of sparked interest and uniqueness.
* Featured architects/designers not only discuss design partis, but also focus on discussing construction details.
* Video footage of the construction process.
* Interviews with featured architects.
* BCx educates through visual representations and discussion of the design and construction process.
BCx is supported by a growing international network of architects, designers, filmmakers, artists, advisors, intellectuals and scouts in the US, UK, Mexico, Holland, Japan, Johannesburg, Australia, Argentina, Dubai and more recently parts of Asia.
Building Connexions is founded by Catherine Swaniker, a senior project architect living and practicing in Washington DC.
